Food

Food is a primary attraction for deer and other wildlife. By bringing more food into your property, you will entice them to come. There are all sorts of feeders and pots that a homeowner can put out that can be filled with corn and seeds. These are a great way to get them to come, but they can be expensive. Another way is to plant natural bushes, like blueberries and other berry plants. These bushes need hardly any maintenance and provide a constant source of nourishment for animals. Native vegetation is something that deer can’t resist. It is not only eye-catching, but it is excellent for human consumption too. These bushes are better than candy to wildlife and the perfect way to allure them into your domain.

Cover

We know that berries, like the blackberry bush, can provide great food, but they can provide shelter too. Part of creating a proper habitat involves shelter. Animals need an area where they can be sheltered from the elements. They love to scrub and wooded areas to protect themselves. If they can get a meal near the shelter, it is a prime location. When you have natural berry bushes, some thinning will occur. This thinning is called slash, and it will increase the underwood vegetation. Deer loves seeds and all sorts of things to nibble on. Why not give them a berry smorgasbord?

Water

Once the animals have finished feasting on the fantastic array of berries in your yard, they will need someplace to drink. Boysenberry, blueberry, and other plants can make them thirsty. When dealing with deer, they get most of their water from the foods they consume. However, during the warmer summer months, they still need somewhere to get fresh water. A pond, creek, lake, or other bodies of water is perfect for them. Planting some of these bushes near the waterways is perfect. They provide food and also help to deal with erosion. Many people keep trees along waterways to contribute as a buffer zone. Create a haven of rest, sustenance, and serenity on your property by providing a tranquil place for wildlife to call home.
