Open your plants and inspect the same day received. We offer 3 days to report any problems with your order. Bare root plants need to be planted within 2-3 days of receiving unless weather-related problems prohibit planting. Store in a cool place and keep roots moist and covered with plastic until they can be planted. Water for the first week daily after planting.

Black Chokeberry Bush is an Ornamental Deciduous Shrub
Black Chokeberry - Aronia melanocarpa is a genus of deciduous shrubs. They are native to eastern North America and are usually found in swamps and wet woodland areas. These shrubs are used for ornamental gardening and as a food source.
The berries can be eaten straight from the bush and have a very tart taste to them. Many people pucker when eating the chokeberries, which is why they got their name. These are commonly used in wine, juice, syrup, jam, beer, tea, salsa, chili, gummies, and ice cream.
This shrub is small to medium in size. It typically grows two to three feet in height and three to four feet in width. It blooms in the spring, the flowers are small white clusters, and when they mature, they turn into blackberries.
The flower clusters are two to two and a half inches in width. The dark green foliage of the plant turns a reddish-purple shade in the fall. Leaves alternate and grow from one to three inches in length. Berries grow to 1/3 to 1/2 of an inch in size and can last into the early winter months. The bark has visible lenticels and is dark brown and very smooth. It has a slow-growing nature and does not reach maturity until five years old.
The plant is a member of the rose family. They grow best in partial shade (up to fifty percent sunlight); It is hard to zone 3 to 8 and tolerate full sun. While the plant prefers acidic, moist to swampy soil, it can acclimate itself to tolerate sandy and dry land.
The plant is easy to maintain; it requires pruning in the spring after blooming, and it is recommended to mulch around the bush in landscaping.
