Description

Eastern White Pine The Eastern White Pine is a popular evergreen tree planted in parks or other large spaces. They grow best in hardy planting zones 3 through 9.

his is a fast-growing tree that gains at least 24 inches in height annually. Typically, they will reach heights between 50 and 80 feet. With their branches fully matured, they can span between 20 and 40 feet in diameter area. It is the tallest conifer tree that grows in the eastern part of the United States.  The soil requirements for this tree are moist, acidic, and well-drained. It has been able to withstand some drier conditions such as on rocky cliffs. It can tolerate some alkaline soil, but the more acidic, the better for its growth. If planted in the sun, it will do well as long as the soil is kept moist.

As an evergreen, they keep their needles all year round. The needles on the Eastern White Pine are bluish-green and grow long and slim with a soft, feathery texture. They can get as long as 5 inches in length and will grow in bundles off of their branches. These trees also grow pine cones that mature between 3 and 8 inches long. These will develop white resin tips, which is why they are called the 'white pine.'Landscapers like using this tree as a windbreaker since it has full foliage year-round and spans a wide diameter. They can grow in a wild, uneven pattern. However, most people will leave it untamed because they like the wild look, it gives the landscape.  These pines hold onto their needles long after they've been cut down. That is why it has become a popular choice for a Christmas tree. People will cut it down around the holidays when it is young and enjoy it's a beauty at home.
