Maidenhair Fern is a Non-Flowering Fern

Maidenhair Fern - Adiantum. Maidenhair Ferns are a collective group of ferns with light green, feathery leaves in a unique fan-like pattern that is almost a perfect circle. These ferns are easy to grow, provided they are kept in a moist environment and are not left to dry out. Their ease of care makes them a common choice for ground cover plants or indoor potted plants. These ferns can reach 20 to 24 inches and live very long.

Flower Form: There are many different types of maidenhair ferns available. The leaf stalk is thin, woody, and delicate. Some stalks are known to be a maroon color instead of green or brown.

Maidenhair Fern grows Best in the shade.

The leaves are light green-grey and are soft to the touch. The leaves are found in clusters on this fern. These ferns are best planted a couple of feet apart as they spread and cover a large area. These ferns prefer part to full shade and like the soil to be moist. The more moisture there is around them, the better they grow.

Maidenhair Fern survives indoors or out.

The moist soils it enjoys are often found near wetland areas and ponds. The plant will become dormant during drought but will return in the spring. Many homeowners love this fern because Maidenhair Ferns are versatile and can be grown outdoors or in.

This Fern is a Healthy Indoor Fern Option. These are very delicate ferns in the Cichorioideae family that hold over two hundred species divided into a classification of the Pteridaceae. These closely related species can shed water without becoming wet. They carry tiny fronds and a delicate appearance related to the hardy ferns that are not sensitive to cold, rather than tropical ferns. These related species can be healthy plants to keep indoors.

This plant typically grows along riverbanks and near hot springs. It likes to be consistently moist because it hates to dry out, even for a short period; it is currently endangered in Australia and Canada. Many Growers have successfully kept the fern in its active stage by placing it in a shady area or under a plant bench in the sunroom.

    purchase of fern roots

Posted by Geoffrey Selling on Jun 08, 2021

They arrived well packed and the correct number was included. A few more planting instructions (eg; depth) would help but I knew enough to manage it. the packing was good and I appreciated the reminder that these will not probably sprout till NEXT spring. This is for a fundraiser and I will share that information with all who purchased the ferns. None of the root clumps was measly. It WAS hard to read which kind of fern was in each bag because the black marker that had been used was obviously running out of ink. Make sure your staff uses a DARK marker so your customers know which is which. Finally, I would have appreciated a packing slip so that I could double check the order with the number of ferns provided. I didn't want my laptop in the planting area because of water and dirt. But all in all, this was a good purchase.
