English Ivy Plant

Such a rustic effect when this covers pillars of your garden structure. I started planting this in my vacation house and it has been crawling up wildly.

English Ivy Plant Is A Ground Cover That Is Evergreen and Stays Lush and Green Year-Round

English Ivy is a fast-growing and low-maintenance vine traced back to ancient Greece. This superb climber can reach heights of up to 80 feet with no problem.

This ivy is native to Europe, Russia, and Scandanavia. Hardiness zones are 4 to 9. The vines often bear dark greenish-yellow or greenish-white leaves.

English Ivy grows slowly in the beginning.

It may take a season or two before it takes off; organic soil must get the best results from ivy plants.

Then place each plant about a foot or so apart. Once the roots take hold, plants will cling to almost anything they encounter.

Unlike most plants that thirst for sunshine, this plant is the opposite. These plants thrive in cool, shady areas. If you have bald areas in your garden, they make great ground covering.

The cool thing about this perennial is that you can also plant it indoors. You can use stakes, pots, or even baskets. However, successful indoor growth needs direct and indirect sunlight, depending on the season.

Before planting this perennial, gardeners should understand growth can get pretty aggressive. Too much, too fast, can damage trees if not controlled.

This plant is as toxic as it is pretty. If ingested by humans, dogs, cats, and even livestock, the plant can cause serious illness. The symptoms can range from mild to severe. If your pet experience high fever, drooling, and hallucinations after ingesting this plant, seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

If you need to manage the ivy, there is nothing wrong with a bit of pruning. Never yank off vines because they could cause damage to trees or other objects. It's better just to cut away any excess vines.

This plant has a wide temperature growth range between 45 and 80 degrees. However, excessive cold winds and summer heat can be killer.

This ivy is one of the easiest to propagate. Just take a few tree trimmings with healthy roots and submerge them in water. In a few days, roots will grow. Either plant them in loose soil or in-ground cover, and they will take hold.

Ivy can be susceptible to brown leaf disease. A 10 to 1 water to vinegar mix can usually help. Other than that, could you sit back and watch them spread?
