Silver Maple Seedlings is a Fast Growing Shade Producing Deciduous
The aptly named silver maple is beloved for the silvery undersides of its leaves that ripple and sparkle when the wind blows and the silver hues of its bark when it's young. Even the flowers are silver. But what gardeners love about this tree is that it grows incredibly fast. The silver maple, which can grow to 50 to 80 feet with a 35 to 50-foot spread when it's full-grown, grows over two feet per year.
Besides its beauty and rapid growth, the silver maple is excellent as a shade tree and is often found in parks, gardens, and along sidewalks for that purpose. It has an extensive root system and should be planted in an area where its roots can spread out without interfering with septic tanks, underground plumbing, or utility lines. It prefers deep, fertile, moist soil with an acid pH.
Silver Maple Seedlings are Sturdy and can Stand some Flooding and Some Drought Conditions
The red, gold, and silver flowers open in the earliest spring before the leaves. The fruit called samaras has twisted wide-spread wings. At 3 inches long, the silver maple's Samaras is the largest of any North American maple. The leaves not only have beautiful, silvery undersides in the growing season but turn red and mustard yellow in the fall. They are 3 to 6 inches long, deeply lobed and deeply cut, and have hairs along the veins. Though the most common silver maple has a vase-shaped habit, one type of silver maple has graceful, weeping branches.
Silver Maple Seedlings like a lot of shade
The silver maple prefers full sun to part shade, though it may be one of the tallest trees in the neighborhood at maturity. It will grow to be 50 to 70 feet high when fully developed. It will also grow to around 3 feet each year. This tree will grow well in full sunlight and partially shaded areas.
This tree also adapts well to various soil conditions and is very drought tolerant. During those Autumn months, it will produce beautiful, breathtaking colors for you to enjoy. This tree will also attract several varieties of birds and other wildlife.
