 Black Haw, Viburnum Prunifolium

Black Haw Viburnum is a deciduous shrub or small tree with widespread branching growth, native to woodland habitats with plenty of suns, adequate moisture, and well-drained soil. Used as medicine by the Native Americans, the shrub brings aesthetics and utility to anywhere it's planted. Featuring dark green leaves and large, showy white blooms in season, usually starting in mid-spring, the black haw bush is a beautiful addition to any garden. Edible fruits (appearing late in the year) are a favorite of native birds. The tree's spreading, irregular shape and crooked trunk lends an unusual quality to hedges and other boundaries, while still providing an effective barrier. Alone or in a fence, black haw requires little maintenance unless drought conditions are present.

This is an excellent little shrub for your flower garden or natural area. It will grow to be around 15 feet high when fully developed. It grows well in full sunlight and will also do well in partially shaded areas. This is an excellent shrub because it will adapt to various soil conditions. It will give your lawn a burst of color during the autumn months with orange and red leaves. It will also be beautiful with the white blooms it will provide for you during the spring and summer.
