Make Your Own Fertilizer

If you don't want to buy fertilizer, there are ways to make your fertilizer with ingredients you may have at home. Not all fertilizer needs to contain animal or fish waste; what matters is the nutrients and properties of fertilizer that will keep plants healthy. Learning how to make your fertilizer is also something to learn to get the right balance of nutrients in the soil. Suppose you are growing roses, houseplants, or vegetables. In that case, you may want to make Epsom salt fertilizer because it will provide a healthy dose of sulfate and magnesium, which are critical supportive ingredients for growing plants. You can use this fertilizer in place of plant food or vegetable fertilizer. Use one tablespoon of Epsom salt and place it in a gallon of water. Place in a water jug and water once a month. For plants that love more acidic soil, use a tablespoon of vinegar and mix in a gallon of water. You don't want too much acidity, so water every three months. Regarding powders, you can use coffee ground powder for other acidic plants. Ground coffee contains potassium, nitrogen, and magnesium, but don't overdo it with any ingredient. If you don't have lime available, then take some eggshells and allow them to dry. Would you please place them in a blender and mix until the shells form a fine powder? You can then sprinkle it around your garden in place of lime. Fireplace ash will also replace lime which is rich in calcium carbonate and potassium. Avoid using fireplace ash if your plants like acidity or if your soil contains alkaline. If you are focused on vegetable gardens, you can make your fertilizer in liquid form. Liquid fertilizer will seep into the ground faster, getting to the roots. You will need enough plant matter to fill a five-gallon bucket halfway. Plant matter can include stems, leaves, grass, or bush trimmings. Make sure there is no diseased plant material or mildewed plants in the mixture. Use 12-24 eggshells and pour them into a bucket and fill them up with water. Place in a dark area and mix 2-3 times a week over the next three weeks. These few weeks will be the brewing process. You will have natural ingredients you can use for your vegetable garden without buying expensive or generic brand fertilizer that may be more acidic.
