American Beech Seedlings are native to the eastern United States and eastern Canada. This majestic deciduous tree can grow up to 115 feet tall, with smooth, silvery bark and dark green, sparsely toothed leaves that turn brilliant golden-yellow in the fall.

Ideal for Shade and Wildlife

These seedlings prefer partial shade and fertile, moist soil. Their dense foliage makes them perfect for adding shade to large yards. The partially hollow trunks provide shelter for squirrels and other small animals. In autumn, the tree produces beechnuts, which are an excellent food source for birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and wild turkeys.

Longevity and Growth

American Beech can live up to 300 years, making it a long-lasting addition to any landscape. The tree grows best in full sunlight and thrives in open spaces. It grows at a medium rate of 1-2 feet per year and reaches widths of 40-70 feet, creating a striking focal point for large lawns or estates.

Soil and Climate Requirements

These trees thrive in Hardiness Zones 3-9 and prefer deep, moist, rich, well-drained soils. They can withstand a range of weather conditions, from extreme cold to heat, making them highly adaptable across North America.

Flowers and Nut Production

American Beech seedlings flower in early spring, producing small yellow male flowers and reddish-brown female flowers. The tree produces beechnuts in abundance every two to three years, which wildlife loves.

Aesthetic Value

With its wide, oval-shaped leaves, smooth bark, and sprawling branches, the American Beech adds elegance and visual appeal to any landscape. Its seasonal foliage provides vibrant green in spring and summer, turning golden-yellow or brown in fall.
