Cushion moss is pale green and develops a white sheen when dry. When watered, its light green color returns. Once installed, it creates a beautiful green carpet on both commercial and residential properties. It also works wonderfully in terrariums.
Cushion Moss Loves Poor Sandy Soil
Due to its round shape, gardeners can use cushion moss in a variety of decorative ways along walkways, around trees, and in woodland gardens. It adds sculptural interest to fair and shady Japanese gardens. This moss thrives in sandy soils and poor, acidic soils that are kept moist.
The Plant Grows Anywhere That’s Shaded And Somewhat Damp
Unlike many plants, cushion moss does not produce flowers but reproduces via spores through a complex process. It lacks roots and vascular tissues and secures itself to the ground with rhizoid filaments. Rhizoids allow the moss to be easily broken up and transplanted. Without vascular tissue, the plant absorbs nutrients directly from water.
How To Plant Moss
To plant cushion moss, first remove all other vegetation from the area. Dig in about two inches of peat-type soil and drench the area until muddy. Gently rinse the moss clumps, then place them in the prepared area. Press down to remove any air pockets for proper contact with the soil.
It Is Shipped Bare-Root
Cushion moss is shipped as a bare-root plant. It can be stored in the refrigerator or even the freezer until planting. This soft, delicate plant is also loved by animals.

Lovely soft spongy mosses around the center of my garden. Trying out to accent with mini ferns and mini flowering shrubs. Excited to see it fully grown this summer.
This is a wonderful addition to my flower garden. Looks great where I planted it.
