Buy Blue Hydrangea Plants Online -  Hydrangea macrophylla

The Nikko Blue Hydrangea plants are a beautiful bush that has beautiful flowers. This plant is great for accenting a garden, lining a wall, or being used as a partition. You can change the color of the bloom. If you add aluminum sulfate, you will have a deep azure. If you add lime, you will get a darker pink. It is one of the few flowers whose color can change with help.

Nikko Blue Hydrangea Plants Can Reach 6 Feet Tall

Scientific Name: macrophylla

U.S.D.A. Climate Zone: five through nine. Only winter hardy to zone 6

Bush Height: four to six feet tall

Soil Type: Acidic soil creates deep azure blooms. Alkaline soil creates light azure or even pink blooms.

Sun: Full to half shade

This shrub blooms in early summer. It must be deeply watered, especially during dry weather and when the flowers bloom.

If you take off the dead bulbs, they will grow more. One nice thing about the shrubs is that you can cut them and dry them straight in a vase when the blooms are full. They keep for several years and can be a lovely accent in a room in your house.

Plant Description

This stunning shrub grows its clusters in semi-shaded areas. The vibrant azure flowers bloom with handsome green foliage, usually on old wood.

Sometimes, these deciduous flowers bloom with a pink, purple, or white hue instead of azure.

It Is Fast-Growing And Easy To Care For

While many people might consider this plant a "showy" plant, that does not make it any less beautiful. Nikko Blue Hydrangea is relatively fast-growing and easy to maintain, with its best bloom time in late spring or early summer.

Water plan regularly to keep the soil moist (i.e., a couple of times a week). Good companion plants include Holly, Rose of Sharon, Azaleas, and Sweetspires.

If left to its own devices, this native Japanese plant can quickly reach four to six feet tall and wide. It typically grows at a rate of approximately 24 inches per year.

Soil and Water

This plant likes moist soil that drains well. The most crucial factor to consider is the soil's acidity, or lack thereof, which ultimately plays a significant role in determining bloom color.

More acidic soil produces that vibrant azure color, but pink appears with more alkaline mixtures. You can raise acidity by adding sphagnum peat moss or nitrogen fertilizer to the soil.

Conditions for Temperature and Humidity

Some can grow fully in temperatures as low as 32 degrees Fahrenheit. That said, newer, younger plants must be grown in temperatures lower than 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

This Shrub Loves High Humidity

These plants generally like mid to high humidity at any age and grow particularly well in summer. A too-dry climate, like that in a desert, can cause the plant to wither and droop.

Details on Pruning

This plant requires very little pruning. If you need to prune or cut your plant back, plan to do so before early fall and late summer to avoid cutting set buds or blooms.

Cutting set buds could mean you don't grow flowers the following year. Dead branches, however, can be trimmed at any time.

How To Take Care Of This Particular Plant

The Nikko blue hydrangea plants can become infested with aphids or scales, spreading quickly around your garden or landscaping. Treat your Nikko Blue hydrangeas with a mind insecticide at the first sign of either issue. You could also use neem oil. Apart from these issues, there is nothing else you need to worry about.
