Narcissus daffodil plants are among the first flowers to bloom in spring. The traditional flower features pale yellow petals surrounding a darker trumpet, though variations now include pure white petals with lemon-yellow or orange trumpets. Plant bulbs twice as deep as they are tall and three inches apart. After the sword-shaped leaves die back, bulbs can either remain in the ground or be stored in dry onion bags until fall planting.
The common buttercup form provides a rich pop of color. In flower language, it symbolizes radiant charm. The simple flowers have five petals forming a cup-like shape, making them perfect for brightening any garden.
The shiny leaves reflect sunlight and add dimension to gardens. They capture morning dew, sparkling when the sun hits the petals. This feature enhances the elegance and vibrancy of the garden display.
Narcissus has many varieties, with some blooming in April and May. If soil and light conditions are optimal, the flowers can last several weeks. Buttercups grow best in sunny or partly sunny areas with moist soil and may require initial fertilization. Creeping buttercup varieties thrive in moist garden areas, spread over time, and can be separated for propagation.
These disc-shaped flowers have black and yellow centers, growing 1 to 2 feet tall and equally wide. They prefer full to partial sunlight and well-drained soil, avoiding areas prone to standing water.
Narcissus daffodil plants are hardy perennials that reseed themselves annually. Over time, they grow thicker, enhancing the garden with more abundant blooms each year.
