The Narcissus daffodil plant is one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring. The traditional form of the flower is made of pale yellow petals surrounding a darker trumpet, though there are now variations on that general color scheme.
Some now have pure white leaves surrounding lemon-yellow or even orange horns. The rule of thumb is to put the bulbs twice as thick as they are tall and three inches apart. After the sword-shaped leaves die back, some people leave the bulbs in the ground. Others dig them up and keep them in onion bags in a calm and dry place till they're ready to be set out in the fall.

Bare root plants need to be planted within 2-3 days of receiving unless weather-related problems prohibit planting. Store in a cool place and keep roots moist and covered with plastic until they can be planted. Water for the first week daily after planting.
